A Philosophy of Kindness at Altefeld

Our property, covering 135 hectares, offers ideal conditions for raising horses in the natural surroundings in which they will be happiest. All our horses, the young ones in particular, benefit from running free in our large pastures. They benefit, as well, from the superb equine diet available to them, including fresh grasses year-round, and apples from our abundant trees. They are carefully attended and instructed by us, but have a sense of freedom as they grow up in the beautiful landscape of Altefeld.

Stallions are kept separately, and our attendants work with each one individually, on a daily basis, according to age groups. Broodmares are usually in the area of the main barn, where they can take shelter from unfavorable weather.

The stimulating climate of Altefeld’s high plateau does the rest—our shelly, limestone soil ensures luscious grass and nutritious grazing. We do not use chemicals in any of our fields.

Care of the pastures is completed by our herd of Angus cattle, which provides for a natural rotation in the use of our fields. Water supply comes from an internal water line network, and is available throughout the farm at all times.
