Altefeld, the last great stud farm created in Germany, has its structural roots in the Trakehner tradition, and its methods founded in Thoroughbred breeding. Altefeld brings together the experiences of breeding both equine lines, to strengthen the noblest attributes of both. It became one of the first stud farms to breed Trakehners after they were driven from their homeland and nearly wiped out at the end of the Second World War, and it was home for many years to the renowned Thoroughbred stud, Waldfried.
Altefeld offers a look backwards into a gentle, natural style of equine breeding, which nurtures horses of robust health and balanced temperament. To get to know our history, we hope visitors will stop in to visit our museum, which traces Altefeld’s past through pictures, displays, saddles, and trophies. We want you to get to know our farm, and the heritage of the horses who have lived here. |
